6. Indian Army TGC-145 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

A candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India; or
  • A subject of Nepal; or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from the specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India, subject to the eligibility certificate requirements prescribed in the notification.Nationality

Nepalese Gorkha candidates are exempted from the eligibility certificate requirement specified for certain other categories.

7. Age Limit

The candidate's age must be between 20 and 27 years as on 01 July 2027.

The candidate should have been born:

Not earlier than 01 July 2000

and

Not later than 30 June 2007.

The date of birth recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary School Examination Certificate or equivalent certificate will be accepted for determining age. No other document relating to age will be accepted.

8. Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess:

  • BE/B.Tech, or
  • M.Sc Computer Science

in the notified engineering streams/equivalent streams specified under the vacancy section of the notification.

Candidates with engineering degrees obtained from foreign countries are not eligible for this course.

The engineering degree must be from a university/institution recognized under the applicable Indian laws and regulations specified in the notification.

9. Final Year Engineering Students

Final-year engineering students can also apply, subject to the conditions prescribed by the Indian Army.

Candidates who have not yet passed their final-year degree examination must:

  • Submit proof of passing the Engineering Degree Examination along with marksheets of all semesters/years by 01 July 2027.
  • Produce the Engineering Degree Certificate within 12 weeks from commencement of training at IMA.

Failure to produce the required degree certificate can result in cancellation of candidature and recovery of applicable training costs, stipend, pay and allowances under the prescribed conditions.

Candidates whose final-year/final-semester examination result will be declared after 01 July 2027 are not eligible to apply.

The selection process consists of the following stages:

Stage 1 – Shortlisting

The Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army) reserves the right to shortlist applications based on the vacancy-to-call-up ratio for each engineering discipline/stream.

A cut-off percentage is applied separately for each engineering stream based on the candidate's cumulative percentage up to the final semester/year.

For final-year candidates, the cumulative percentage up to the prescribed semester/year must meet the approved cut-off.

Stage 2 – SSB Interview

Shortlisted candidates are reqired to select their SSB centre and date through the official website.

The available SSB centres mentioned in the notification are:

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

Bengaluru, Karnataka

Jalandhar, Punjab

The SSB centre and date are available on a first-come, first-served basis after shortlisting. Once selected, the centre/date generally cannot be changed.

The SSB selection process consists of two stages:

Stage 1 → Candidates who qualify proceed to Stage 2.

Stage 2 → Candidates recommended after Stage 2 undergo medical examination.

The SSB interview can have a duration of up to five days.

12. Medical Examination

Candidates recommended by the SSB are required to undergo medical examination.

The notification states that the validity of the SSB medical examination is 270 days, from the Special Medical Board (SMB) up to the date of joining the Pre-Commission Training Academy, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

13. Final Selection and Merit

Candidates recommended by SSB and declared medically fit are issued joining letters according to the order of merit, subject to:

14. Type of Commission

Selected candidates are initially granted Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lieutenant from the commencement of the course or the date of reporting at IMA, whichever is later.

On successful completion of training, cadets are granted Permanent Commission in the Indian Army in the rank of Lieutenant.

TGC engineering graduates are also granted one year ante-date seniority from the date of commission for the purposes specified in the notification.

16. Marriage During Training

Candidates are not permitted to marry during training at IMA.

A candidate who marries during training may be discharged and may be liable to refund the expenditure incurred by the Government.

A candidate who marries after submitting the application but before induction may also have their candidature cancelled under the conditions specified in the notification.

17. Training Cost

The entire cost of training at IMA, Dehradun is borne by the Government.

However, if an Officer Cadet is withdrawn from the training academy for reasons other than medical grounds or reasons beyond the candidate's control, the candidate may be required to refund the applicable training cost.

The notification mentions a tentative training cost of ₹20,481.96 per week, subject to the actual applicable cost at the time of withdrawal/resignation.
